Takht is an epic historical-action drama set during the Mughal Era and centers around Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh's bitter feud to succeed their father Shah Jahan when his health declined. This fierce rivalry ignited into an ugly struggle over succession which would span five long years of warfare before ultimately leaving Aurangzeb dead by suicide in 1858. As numerous historical accounts demonstrate, Aurangzeb (Vicky Kaushal) held an intense hatred towards Dara (Ranveer Singh), his elder brother and a liberal Muslim frequently seen with Hindu monks such as yogis and sannyasis. Dara (Kareena Kapoor Khan), considered dear by both Shah Jahan (Anil Kapoor) and Jahanara Begum, an esteemed name in her own right within the Empire, made an ideal candidate to replace Aurangzeb as ruler - something Shah Jahan couldn't stomach. Roshanara Begum (Bhumi Pednekar), Aurangzeb's other sister, harbors deep animosity for Jahanara Begum due to her overshadowing popularity and glamour. Outraged at being overshadowed, she joins Aurangzeb in his cruel schemes against Dara, imprisoning Shah Jahan, and seizing power himself.
